Mr. Jacobus, an experienced attorney who will be soon celebrating his 20th year in private practice in Bellaire, TX, has also been an advisory title officer for Fidelity National Title since 2010 and the executive vice president of Charter Title in Houston, TX, since 1986. Admitted to the Bar of Texas in 1973 just after completing law school, he then became board certified by the State Bar of Texas Board of Legal Specialization in both residential and commercial real estate. He formerly served as a shareholder at Jenkens & Gilchrist in Houston and as partner at Jacobus & Melamed PC in Houston.

In addition to his full-time career, Mr. Jacobus has juggled various other roles, including serving as Course Director of the Texas Land Title Association Institute, course director for the State Bar of Texas Advanced Real Estate Law Course, as an adjunct faculty member at Texas A&M University, and adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center, the C.T. Bauer School of Business at The University of Houston, and Houston Community College. He is also the former co-chairman of the broker-lawyer committee and the former chairman of the real estate advisory committee for the Texas Real Estate Commission.

Throughout his career, Mr. Jacobus has authored several books, including third edition of "Real Estate Law" in 2016 and the 11th edition of "Texas Real Estate Law" in 2008. The co-author of several books as well, such as "Keeping the Current with Texas Real Estate," he has also contributed many articles to various publications, served as editor for "Building Blocks of a Commercial Transaction," and was editor-in-chief for "Texas Forms Manual: A Guide for Real Estate and Title Documentation." Active in his field, Mr. Jacobus recently served on the board of directors for the Real Estate Educators Association, was a member of the University of Houston Law Alumni Association's Houston chapter, and was president and treasurer of the Texas Real Estate Teachers Association, among many other roles with similar professional organizations.

Locally, Mr. Jacobus has been quite active for more than 40 years. Most notably, he served as the mayor of the City of Bellaire from 1998 to 2000. He also served in various capacities for the Boy Scouts of America, as chairman of the Task Force on Education with the Texas Real Estate Commission, and as secretary and treasurer of the Harris County Mayors and Councils Association.

Receiving many awards over the past three decades for his diligence, beginning with a Real Estate Educator of the Year by the Real Estate Educators Association in 1986, Mr. Jacobus more recently earned a Weatherby Workhorse Award by the State Bar of Texas in 2016, a Distinguished Eagle Scout Award by the Boy Scouts of America in 2013, and Distinguished Texas Real Estate Attorney Lifetime Achievement Award from the State Bar of Texas in 2012. Married with two children and three grandchildren, Mr. Jacobus has been cited in over 70 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. Mr. Jacobus holds both an undergraduate degree and Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston.
