Arleen Schilling Recognized for Commitment to Education

Ms. Schilling was selected to receive the Thompson Education Foundation Award for "Boxed History"

    LOVELAND, CO, April 09, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Arleen Schilling has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 20 years of professional experience, Ms. Schilling has served as a teacher at Mountain View High School since 1999. In this position, she is noted as a flexible educator who can effectively use critical thinking strategies and standards-based instruction to improve student learning. She takes great pride in improving and expanding student minds to think in various viewpoints and from many perspectives in order to communicate a definitive idea. Earlier in her career, Ms. Schilling taught Civics and Modern America to high school students, with an emphasis on critical thinking, as a social studies teacher with Thompson Valley High School. From 1996 to 1999, she worked as a language arts teacher with Conrad Ball Middle School, where she designed and created two new curriculums, with one focused on how to read and write for other content areas.

Ms. Schilling's primary focuses are on Modern America and Civics, though she has taught a variety of courses, including Sociology, Psychology, AP U.S. History, AP U.S. Government, Pre-AP Civics, and 9-12 Language Arts. From 2014 to 2015, she worked with the 40s Forever Event leads to encourage high school students to preserve history. Ms. Schilling maintains involvement with a wide range of organizations, including the Colorado Education Association. A respected voice in the field of education, she authored a story in Colorado State Patrol Magazine and helped students put together a magazine for the first responders in Loveland, CO.

Prior to pursuing a career in education, Ms. Schilling graduated from Loveland High School in 1987. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in history and social sciences at the University of Northern Colorado in 1992. She holds a master's degree in technology curriculum and instruction design, which she received from Grand Canyon University in 2009. While completing formal education, she focused on social studies education with an emphasis in 20th century American history.

Throughout her career, Ms. Schilling has been recognized for her advanced skills in historical literacy, blended learning, educational technology, PBIS, and differentiated learning. A grantee of Project TEACH, Ms. Schilling has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders. She was also selected to receive the Thompson Education Foundation Award for "Boxed History," which was an inquiry lesson created to teach students about the 1920s through primary artifacts. As she moves forward with her career, Ms. Schilling looks forward to her continued involvement in molding the young minds of the future.
