With more than 60 years of academic and industrial experience, Dr. Eisch has worked since 1983 as distinguished professor of chemistry until his retirement in 2014. Since then he has conducted academic research and industrial consultation. Prior to his residence at SUNY Binghamton, he has served on the faculty at St. Louis University and the University of Michigan. In 1963 he was chosen as faculty for The Catholic University of America and was then elected as Head and Professor of Chemistry. In 1972 he was invited to become Chairman of Chemistry in the State University of New York at Binghamton.

John Eisch was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1930 to first-generation Americans, whose father was from Bavaria, Germany and his mother from Cork County, Ireland, respectively. He attended parochial school and upon graduation received the scholarship honor of attending the St. John Cathedral High School. Majoring in physical sciences, mathematics and Classical Latin Studies, he graduated as salutatorian of his class. He then pursued chemistry studies at Marquette University, graduated summa cum laude, in 1952. Completing his doctoral studies at Iowa State University, he graduated in March 1956, again summa cum laude. In an international competition, he won the Union Carbide postdoctoral fellowship to perform research at the Max-Planck Institute with Karl Ziegler, who has discovered aluminum alkyl-transition metal catalysts, with Guilio Natta, and together they had won the 1963 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Eisch has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He has been recognized as a P&G fellow of Iowa State University in 1956, a postdoctoral Union Carbide fellow at the Max Planck Institute für Kohlenforschung with Karl Ziegler from 1956 to 1957, as well as a research fellow at the European Research Associates in 1957 in Brussels, Belgium, a senior research fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science in 1979, and a senior research fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung/Foundation from 1993 to 1996 and again in 2005. Dr. Eisch has been selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the East.
