Charles Stephen Foster Celebrates Nearly 50 Years of Professional Excellence in Medicine

Dr. Foster received the Mildred Weisenfeld Award from the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology

    WESTON, MA, April 16, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charles Stephen Foster, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With nearly 50 years of professional experience in medicine, Dr. Foster has been a President at the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institute since 2005, and a clinical professor at Harvard Medical School. He previously held positions at Harvard Medical School, including assistant professor from 1979 to 1982, associate professor from 1982 to 1994, full professor from 1994 to 2005, and adjunct professor of Immunology from 2015 to the present. During this span of time, Dr. Foster garnered experience at the Eye Research Institute of Retina Foundation as a clinical assistant scientist from 1977 to 1981, and as a clinical associate scientist from 1981 to 1984.

In preparation for his career, Dr. Foster first obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Duke University in 1965, subsequently earning a Doctor of Medicine from Duke University in 1969. Following the completion of his degrees, Dr. Foster held an internship in internal medicine from 1969 to 1970, a residency in ophthalmology from Washington University in St. Louis from 1972 to 1975, a fellowship in cornea and external diseases from the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary from 1975 to 1976, and a fellowship in immunology from Harvard Medical School from 1976 to 1977. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Foster has been a consultant for Alcon Laboratories since 1993, Allergan Labs since 2005, and Bausch and Lomb since 2003. In addition, he is a member of the board of directors of the American Uveitis Society and founder and CEO of the Immunology and Uveitis Foundation. Furthermore, he is a member of the scientific advisory boards of EyeGate, Sirion, and Lux Biosciences, Inc. Dr. Foster has maintained affiliation with the American College of Rheumatology, the American Association of Immunologists, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the American Ophthalmology Society. He was also granted a fellowship with the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, from which he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Furthermore, Dr. Foster is a member of Sigma Xi, Phi Beta Kappa, and Alpha Omega Alpha.

A respected voice in the field, Dr. Foster has contributed to a variety of publications, including as editor of "Epidemiology of Venous Thrombosis" in 1972. He also served as the author of "The Sclera" in 1993, "The Cornea" in 2004, and "Diagnosis and Treatment of Uveitis" in 2002. Dr. Foster has further contributed countless articles to professional journals throughout his career. In recognition of his achievements, Dr. Foster was presented with the Mildred Weisenfeld Award from the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and he was named a Research to Prevent Blindness Scholar in 1994. Dr. Foster has received numerous grants in his field of expertise.

The son of Carson and Martha Foster, Dr. Foster has one child, Marc David. Looking toward the future, he aspires to continue making strides in the fields of medicine and higher education, teaching young doctors how to reach their full potential.
