MILWAUKEE, WI, April 24, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Concurrency, Inc., a Microsoft-focused professional services firm helping clients achieve digital transformation, hosted 10 students from Milwaukee Public Schools' Washington High School of Information Technology for a superhero-themed career day held April 19 at Concurrency's headquarters in Brookfield.

During the half-day event, students learned about applications of Microsoft's mixed-reality system, HoloLens and met with Concurrency professionals to learn how IT "superpowers" are put to work in a wide range of business and societal contexts. For example, students met with a Concurrency data analytics expert to review crime statistics and apply predictive analytics models to that data.

"The superheroes theme emphasized that IT careers cover a lot more ground than just programming," said Keli Wells, Human Capital Training and Development Manager, at Concurrency. "We sought to open these students' eyes to the wide range of opportunities in information technology, from design-oriented roles such as user-experience engineering to mathematical-modeling roles such as data science."

The sessions for Washington High School of Information Technology students is one of several Concurrency programs for high-schoolers. Concurrency also partners with the Elmbrook School District's LAUNCH program, in which high school students work onsite at Concurrency. A group of LAUNCH participants is currently working on a diversity and inclusion project in Concurrency's human capital department. Late last year, another group of LAUNCH students contributed to customer relationship management work in Concurrency's marketing department.

In other work with local high schoolers, Concurrency participates in a New Berlin School District program in which Concurrency experts provide students with input needed as students approach large-scale problems assigned by school staff. Concurrency is also currently hosting a West Allis high school student intern.

The firm's broader efforts to engage young people also includes Concurrency University, a program for new graduates just launching their professional careers. Learn more at http://concurrency.com/why-concurrency/careers.
