Frank W. Fitch Celebrates Nearly 40 Years of Professional Excellence

    CHICAGO, IL, April 27, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Frank W. Fitch, MD, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With nearly 40 years of research and teaching, Dr. Fitch has been recognized as a professor emeritus of the University of Chicago since 1996. Prior to his retirement, he held multiple positions at the University of Chicago, such as Albert D. Lasker professor of medical science from 1976 to 1996, professor of pathology from 1967 to 1996, director of the Ben May Institute from 1986 to 1995, dean of academy affairs from 1985 to 1986, and associate dean of medical and graduate education for the division of biological science from 1976 to 1985. Dr. Fitch began his career as a faculty member with the University of Chicago, working in this role from 1957 to 1996.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Fitch pursued an education at the University of Chicago, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1953. He followed this accomplishment with a Master of Science in 1957, concluding his studies at the University of Chicago in 1960, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy. Dr. Fitch later obtained an honorary Doctor of Medicine at the University of Lausanne in 1990.

Beyond his efforts within the field, Dr. Fitch has contributed to numerous endeavors in his professional circles. From 1974 to 1975, he was a visiting professor at the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research. He has found much success with his written works as well, serving as editor-in-chief for the Journal of Immunology from 1997 to 2002. Likewise, Dr. Fitch contributed chapters and articles to more than 250 esteemed publications. He was one of the earliest practitioners in the field of monoclonal antibody production.

In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Fitch remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was president for the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology from 1993 to 1994 as well as for the American Association of Immunologists from 1992 to 1993. He is a member of the American Society for Investigative Pathology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the Transplantation Society, Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. The Frank W. and Shirley D. Fitch endowed lectureship was established in his honor by his former graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and colleagues.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Fitch has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his career. He was recognized as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow of the U.S. Public Health Service from 1954 to 1955 and again from 1957 to 1958, he was a Scholar for the Markle Foundation from 1961 to 1966, a Commonwealth Fund Fellow for the University of Lausanne from 1965 to 1966, and a Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation from 1974 to 1975. He was also presented with the Borden Undergraduate Research Award in 1953 and the Lederle Medical Faculty Award from 1958 to 1961. Dr. Fitch was selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who in the World.
