POTOMAC, MD, May 01, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Reza Ghasimi, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Ghasimi celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Retired senior economist and consultant, Dr. Ghasimi was employed with the World Bank for two decades. An international financial institution that provides loans and technical assistance to countries of the world for development projects, he first served as an advisor to the executive director in Afghanistan, Algeria, Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia, Libya and Iran. Hired in 1986, his responsibilities included reviewing World Bank general operations and assessing loans and investment documents prepared by various World Bank Groups. He later served in several other roles, including as a senior advisor, executive director, consultant for the AF2-Eastern Africa department and senior economist staff with the Europe Central Asia sector units, poverty reduction and economics management. Dr. Ghasimi also spent many years with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as well as with L.T. Associates, a consulting firm in Washington, DC, the Central Bank of Iran and the Ministry of Finance of Iran. During the earlier part of his career, he also served as a part-time professor of economics in Iran.

In 2005, Dr. Ghasimi opted for early retirement from the World Bank after more than two decades of continuous service. In addition to some consulting assignments, he is a member of an Iranian Book Club, which gathers every other month to review an Iranian book. He also organized another book club on the Iranian economy, which meets with friends at the Bretton Woods Club every other month to discuss and exchange views on various aspects of Iran's economy.

Recently, Dr. Ghasimi wrote a book through Donyae Eghtesad in Iran, titled "A Witness of War and Economy: An Assessment of Iranian Economy during Iran/Iraq War." Published in 2017, the 303-page book reviews economic policies under three stages of the Iran/Iraq war: the beginning of the war, the period of relative economic recovery, and the era of economic recession. Notably, Dr. Ghasimi published close to 30 documents during his career through the World Bank, as task manager on various projects in Tajikistan, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. He also wrote several articles in such publications as the Journal of Money and Economy, The Middle East Journal and MUFTAH on Iranian economy.

Originally planning to study engineering in college, after winning Central Bank of Iran scholarships to study economics in the United Kingdom, Dr. Ghasimi quickly jumped on board. Just 17 years old at the time, the decision was life changing. Earning a Bachelor of Arts in economics at highest level at Lancaster University in England in 1970, he then completed a Master of Science in economics at the London School of Economics in 1971 and a Doctor of Philosophy in economics at Cambridge University in 1975. The highlight of his career, he noted, was reducing, even the slightest degree, poverty in developing countries where he worked, which brought about hope for those people to enjoy a better life.

Born in a middle-class family in Tehran, Iran, Dr. Ghasimi's father was a carpet shop owner in Tehran and his mother was an elementary school headmaster. Now residing in Maryland with his wife Sheri Nawabi, a Georgetown University graduate who is currently practicing dentistry in Washington, DC, they share two children. Enjoying his spare time, Dr. Ghasimi loves to walk, read, and listen to fictions through audible.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Reza Ghasimi, Ph.D., has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
