Professor of economics and holder of the endowed Chair at Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea, OH, Dr. Miller was first taken on board at the college in 1987. He has since served as the chairman of the economics department between 2007 and 2013 and as the social sciences division chair from 2008 to 2009 and from 2012 to 2013. Dr. Miller formerly taught for two years as an instructor of economics at American University in Cairo, Egypt, worked at the International Center for Energy and Economic Development and the Institute of Behavioral Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and spent one year as an analyst with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC.
Dr. Miller is interested in economic development; specifically in the Middle East, Ukraine and India, as well as environmental economics, and he conducts research on energy policy and Middle Eastern oil. He has served in multiple roles throughout his career in academia, including as a visiting professor at several universities abroad, including The Ternopil National Economic University in the Ukraine and The University of the Autonomous Regions of the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua, was vice president at the Adam Ferguson Institute and a visiting scholar at the Hoover Institution and Stanford University. Dr. Miller also served as a book reviewer, public policy advisor and research associate in his field. In fall 1991, he lectured at Mithibai College which is affiliated with the University of Mumbai. He was listed as a public policy advisor with the Heritage Foundation's Listing in Washington, DC, in 1991.
A longtime member and former vice president and president of the Ohio Association of Economists and Political Scientists, member and current treasurer of the NE Ohio Fulbright Association, and member of several other professional organizations, Dr. Miller with two co-authors will soon, in 2019, publish his first book, "Rethinking the Role of Oil and its Impact on Economic Development in the MENA Region Post-Arab Spring."
The recipient of an Earhart Foundation fellowship from 1977 to 1978, a Fulbright scholarship in Ukraine from 1999 to 2002 and from 2004 to 2005, and a fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies from 2003 to 2004, Dr. Miller has been cited in close to 50 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in the World. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Heidelberg College and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Colorado. Furthermore, Dr. Miller received an honorary doctorate from Ternopil National Economic University for his contributions in 2000.
