Joseph L. Borowitz Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

With 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Borowitz is recognized as a professor emeritus of Purdue University. Prior to his retirement, he held the position of Professor at Purdue University from 1974 to 2015, a visiting professor at the school of Pharmacy with the University of Puerto Rico in 2001. An associate professor of pharmacology and toxicology at Purdue from 1969 to 1974, instructor and assistant professor of pharmacology and toxicology at Purdue University from 1969 to 1974, instructor and assistant professor of pharmacology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center from 1964 to 1969. And chief of the biokinetics branch at the United States School of Aerospace Medicine from 1960 to 1962. He took sabbatical leaves in Switzerland in 1984 and the United Kingdom in 1976. Dr. Borowitz served in the U.S. Army with the rank of Lieutenant and, later, Captain of the Medical Service Corps before his honorable discharge in 1965.

Dr. Borowitz was educated at the Ohio State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He followed this accomplishment in 1957 with a Master of Science in Pharmacology at Purdue University. Dr. Borowitz concluded his studies at Northwestern University, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacology.

In addition to his primary roles, Dr. Borowitz has contributed to numerous endeavors in his professional circles. He has worked as an adjunct professor of pharmacology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, in Lafayette, IN, the treasurer for the Comprehensive Planning Council in Tippecanoe County, IN, from 1971 to 1976. He has also maintained membership in the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and the Rho Chi Society. Dr. Borowitz found additional success as an author, having penned such public works as "Spirituality and Your Health: Reflections of a Pharmacology Teacher" in 2014 and "Need for God in Human Society" in 2017 and over 120 articles for professional journals.

Dr. Borowitz has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his career. He was recognized as a fellow of Northwestern University in 1960, a postdoctoral fellow of the National Institutes of Health from 1962 to 1964, and a postdoctoral fellow with the Department of Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School from 1963 to 1964. He has also been presented with the Excellence of Teaching Award by the Bowman-Gray School of Medicine in 1969, the Henry Heine Award for Excellence of Teaching by the Purdue College of Pharmacy in 1983, the Excellence of Teaching Award by the Indiana University Medical Education Center at Lafayette in 2010, and the Faculty Advisor Excellence Award for a Christian Pharmacy Student Organization in 2010. Furthermore he was grantee of the National Science Foundation from 1965 to 1968, a medical research grantee of the U.S. Army from 1989 to 2000, and a grantee of the National Institutes of Health from 1971 to 1974 and from 1989 until he retired. Also Dr. Borowitz was honored as an outstanding Sunday School Teacher for Blessed Sacrament Church by the Diocese of Lafayette in 2015. Dr. Borowitz has also been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the Midwest.
