Dr. Lee currently serves as a Chair Professor of MOI (Management of Innovation) Program, Department of Convergence Science at Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), a position he has held since 2014, Dalsung-Gun, Daegu in the Republic of Korea. He also served as a Dean of Planning Division of the Institute after he joined DGIST in 2011. Before he moved to DGIST, he was a senior research fellow at the Science and Technology Policy Institute he had held since 1994. He previously served the Korea Academy of Science and Technology as department chief from 2008 to 2009 and as a visiting professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology in 2007. Additionally, Dr. Lee acted as president of the Korea Society for Innovation Management and Economics from 2005 to 2006 and as policy advisor to minister of the Ministry of Science Technology in Gwacheon, Republic of Korea, from 1994 to 1995.

Dr. Lee graduated from the Science Policy Research Unit at Sussex University with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1994 and was certified to practice as an engineer by the Ministry of Science Technology in 1977. Dr. Lee has shared his expertise as the editor-in-chief of the Asian Journal of Technology Innovation since 2004 and has contributed numerous articles to professional journals. He was also a policy advisor in the Chungbuk government in Cengju City from 2000 to 2001 and with the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development with the Korean government from 1998 to 2000. Dr. Lee serves as an active member of multiple organizations, including the Korea Risk Governance, for which he served as vice president in 2007, and the Korea Association of Knowledge Management, where he served as director in 2000. He is also a member of the National Engineering Academy of Korea, which awarded him the Membership Award in 2002, and the Korea Academy of Science Technology, where he was the recipient of the Full Membership Award in 2003.

Dr. Lee is renowned for his research in the concept of knowledge clusters and its application in the development of local scientific and technological capabilities in the Republic of Korea. Dr. Lee is also recognized for his civic engagements; he acted as a member of the Citizens Coalition Economic Justice in Seoul from 1995 to 1997, as a member of Life & Human Rights in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 2000 to 2008, and was the president of the Elders Association with the Chang-dong Presbyterian Church from 2008 to 2009.

In recognition of his professional excellence and outstanding contributions to his industry and community, Dr. Lee was the recipient of the National Medal in 1999, the Korea Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association Award in 2000, the Excellent Report Award in 2003, the Linsu Kim Award in 2003, and the President's Award, presented by Inha University Press in 1977. He was also recognized for his involvement with the Army Ordinance School in 1978 and was awarded the Commander Award by the 5 Military Corps in 1983 and the 7 Military Corps in 1984. Additionally, Dr. Lee was featured in Who's Who in Asia and numerous editions of Who's Who in the World. Alongside his professional success, Dr. Lee celebrates more than 35 years of marriage to his wife, Sunhee Kim. They have two daughters, Enhea and Shinhea. In his spare time, he enjoys playing guitar, mountain climbing, traveling, gardening and music.
