A member of the University of Cincinnati faculty for more than 40 years, Dr. Schreiner taught as an associate professor of medicine and professor of internal medicine on campus between 1955 and 1998. Now an emeritus professor, he also practiced medicine as a licensed internist from 1949 to 2014, served as director of the resident program in internal medicine at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati for nearly a decade, and was the director of the internal medicine department at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati for 25 years (1968-1993).
Dr. Schreiner first completed his undergraduate degree in 1947, followed by a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati in 1949. He then interned in the College of Medicine at the University Hospital and completed residency work at both the University Hospital and the VA Medical Center. His depth of expertise over the years contributed to nearly a decade of working as a consultant to the medical director of General Electric, serving as a medical director for United Home Care Hospice, chairing the United Home Care Agency, serving on the review board of the IRB Christ Hospital, and as an investigator for the Sterling Research Group. The results of his research also led to his contributions of many articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Elected as a fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Schreiner is also a former president of the Cincinnati Society of Internal Medicine, former trustee and president of the Ohio Society of Internal Medicine, and former board of directors of the Hamilton County unit of the American Cancer Society, among other professional memberships. Recently selected as an honoree of an Excellence in Clinical Medicine by the Christ Hospital in 2017, Dr. Schreiner has been highlighted in dozens of editions of Who's Who over the past 30 years, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
Married for 65 years to his wife Jean Tellstrom, Dr. Schreiner and she share one son and four grandchildren. One of their grandchildren is a physician who serves on the faculty at the University of South Carolina and is the program director of residency and internal medicine. Meanwhile, a second grandchild is a senior in medical school at Chapel Hill University.
