Karen Lane Van Neste Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    RICHMOND, VA, June 13, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Karen Lane Van Neste with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Van Neste celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Ms. Van Neste was a librarian for the first 22 years of her career, first at the University of North Carolina in the disorders of development and learning division, followed Florida State University. She then accepted an opportunity with Media General, Inc., from 1979 to 1988 before working for the Richmond Times-Dispatch from 1988 to 2007. Earning her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia in 1973, Ms. Van Neste furthered her studies by completing a Master of Library Science at the University of North Carolina in 1976.

While still in library science, Ms. Van Neste formed Van Neste Books in Midlothian, VA in 1996. Successfully publishing 11 novels, she then moved into the editing aspect of the business, earning a role with the Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg, until 2016. She also spent seven years as an opinion columnist for the newspaper and was a copy editor with the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Ms. Van Neste continues to work as a freelance editor for clients in the Richmond area, where she reads and edits manuscripts for many different genres, including novels, memoirs, and local history. Recently, Ms. Van Neste has edited many pieces, most recently "Christmas Heist: A Courtroom Adventure" in 2015, "The Bottom" in 2015, "Parker Field" in 2014 and "Oregon Hill in 2012. She continues to serve as a writer for her community newsletter with the Ginter Place Condominium Association since 2015 and formerly contributed for various other homeowner associations.

A member of the Class of 1973 Reunion Committee with the University of Virginia Alumni Association and vice president of Richmond First, Ms. Van Neste formerly served on the house rules committee for the 2300 Club and is a member of the Woman's Club of Richmond, the American Biographical Institute, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Special Libraries Association, and the Professional Women's Advisory Board.

Recognized for her contributions, Ms. Van Neste's editing work includes a recipient of a Peace Corps Fiction Award, an Editorial Section Award from the Virginia Press Association, The Dashiell Hammett Prize, a National Indie Excellence Award, and she was a finalist for the Correspondent of the Year Award from the Richmond Times Dispatch. She has been showcased in every edition of Who's Who in America since 2006, as well as several editions of Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. Married since 1973 to Howard Wayne Owen, a novelist and Hammett Prize winner, Ms. Van Neste enjoys cooking, interior decorating, and traveling abroad in her free time.
