Henry L. Gabelnick Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

With more than 50 years of industry experience, Dr. Gabelnick has worked as an independent consultant on reproductive health technology since 2014. In addition, he has been recognized as professor emeritus of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Eastern Virginia Medical School since 2014, having been a professor since 1986. He previously held several roles with the CONRAD Program, including senior advisor from 2012 to 2013, previously serving as the director from 1990 to 2012, deputy director from 1986 to 1990, and director of extramural research from 1986 to 1989. Prior to these appointments, he held the position of biomedical engineer for the National Institutes of Health from 1968 to 1986. Dr. Gabelnick began his career as a senior chemical engineer for Monsanto Company from 1966 to 1968.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Gabelnick pursued an education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1961. He continued his academic efforts with a Master of Science in 1962, also at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Gabelnick concluded his studies in 1966 at Princeton University, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Gabelnick has participated in numerous endeavors in his professional circles. He has contributed to the advisory panel on contraception for the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics from 1998 to 2006, the advisory council to the Department of Chemical Engineering at Princeton University from 2004 to 2009, and on the board of directors for the Alliance for Microbicide Development. He has also held the role of technical advisor for the World Health Organization since 1977, secretary for the International Partnership for Microbicides from 2002 to 2006 for which he was a founding member and technical expert for the United Nations Development Programme in 1973. Additionally, he is now a Docent for the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory and the Calvert Marine Museum. Dr. Gabelnick found success with his written works as well, having edited "Rheology of Biological Systems" in 1973, "Drug Delivery Systems" in 1976, "Heterosexual Transmission of AIDS" in 1990, "Barrier Contraceptives" in 1993, and "Biology, Pharmacology, and Clinical Applications of Androgens" in 1996.

In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Gabelnick remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has been associated with the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Chemical Society, the European Society of Contraception and Reproductive Health, and the Controlled Release Society. Furthermore, he was active with the American Society for Reproductive Medicine as vice president from 2001 to 2002, president from 2002 to 2008, and on the board of directors from 2000 to 2008. The past chair of the population, reproduction, and sexual health section of the American Public Health Association from 2011 to 2012, he was made a lifetime member of the Indian Society for the Study of Reproduction & Fertility in 2004 and the vice president of the board of trustees for the Egon and Ann Diczfalusy Foundation USA since 2008. Likewise, Dr. Gabelnick was a member of the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals, the Global Health Council, the Cosmos Club and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Gabelnick has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He has been recognized as a Fellow of TRI Princeton. He was presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards from the International Symposium on AIDS in 2005, and the Microbicides International Symposium in 2010. Dr. Gabelnick was selected for inclusion in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World.
