Kathleen Douglas, Ph.D., Recognized among Elite Professionals by Marquis Who's Who

    WINTER PARK, FL, June 18, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kathleen Douglas, Ph.D., has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After attending a semester in both London and Munich and receiving a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan in 1972, Dr. Douglas began her career in education as an elementary teacher at Marymount Prep School in Palos Verdes, California. She remained in the educational arena for more than 30 years, facilitating the academic and social development of students at various institutions. She earned a Master of Arts in counseling psychology from Chapman University and established a private practice in Orlando, FL. Transitioning from elementary to the higher level education proved to be seamless for Dr. Douglas, who earned a Doctor of Philosophy in counselor education from the University of Florida in 1990 and was a psychology professor at Valencia Community College from 1988 to 1993. At Troy University, she served as an assistant professor and clinical internship supervisor before joining the faculty of Barry University as an associate professor and coordinator of the doctoral counseling program where she chaired numerous doctoral dissertation committees. Though she officially retired in 2002, she has continued teaching part-time at the Florida Institute of Technology since 2005.

In addition to her remarkable work in the classroom and in her private practice, Dr. Douglas has been a presenter in the field for many years. In 1988, she presented a paper entitled, "Computer Intelligence Testing: How well does it work?" at the American Association for Counseling and Development (AACD) National Convention. She also served as a therapist for victims of abuse, individuals facing addictions and chronic disorders. During the 1980s, she provided counseling services at Winter Park Towers Nursing Home and was an intern and counselor at Hillcrest Halfway House in Orlando.

An elected counselor representative with the Florida Association of Mental Health Counselors, she also served as a board member of community and statewide counseling organizations. She wrote "The Therapeutic Superhighway Virtual Reality: The latest technique," which outlined how various disorders could be effectively treated using Artificial Intelligence technology," and was published in 1995, and received a Civic Award from an organization dedicated to preventing spousal abuse. Her professional legacy has been cemented through additional honors, such as inclusion in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in Finance and Industry.

As a U.S. Army Signal officer, Dr. Douglas's specialty was communications and computer science. She received training and experience in computer technologies and software development from the Army as well as training at The Digital Equipment Corporation and The Naval Postgraduate School.

In 2009, she published an article entitled "Preparing for Pandemic Influenza and its Aftermath: Mental Health Issues Considered" in the International Journal of Emergency Mental Health.

Dr. Douglas is also an inventor and has been awarded one patent by the U.S. Patent Office in the area of health care and has several patents currently pending. She has recently become involved with Rad Impact, a non profit organization that is dedicated to helping improve medical care in rural third world countries by equipping rural clinics with ultrasound equipment and providing comprehensive training on diagnosis and management.
