A retired non-profit agency executive and developer, Mr. McDonald spent the majority of his career employed with the Boy Scouts of America, where he was once a Scout. Between 1971 and 2009, he served in the roles of district executive, field director, associate regional director, chief executive officer and Scout executive across many cities in California. Concluding his career as the chief operations officer for the local Scout council serving San Bernardino and Riverside counties, Mr. McDonald is an expert in financial planning, board development and staff leadership. During his tenure with the non-profit organization, he oversaw volunteer recruitment and management, board development, fundraising, membership development, program delivery and staff management. He formerly worked as a regional sales manager for Baron Data Systems in San Leandro, CA.
Mr. McDonald's desire to serve the youth and give back what others had provided to him enabled him to later work with community leaders and business executives in Silicon Valley to develop and expand the Scouting program. His honors have included a James E. West Fellowship granted by the Boy Scouts of America in 1993, the Asian American Spirit of Scouting Award in 2009, the St. George Award from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento in 2000, a Cliff Dochterman Award in 2009, and a Centennial Lifetime Achievement Award granted by the Redwood Empire Council in 2010.
A longtime member of Rotary International, Mr. McDonald is a Paul Harris Fellow and served as a district governor and assistant governor. He is also active with the Scouting Heritage Society and the Knights of Columbus. He is the former regional vice chairman for Boy Scouts of America Alumni Association, and the National Eagle Scout Association, is past president of the Penn Valley Rotary Club and a founding officer of the Penn Valley Rotary Foundation. Within his local community, he is a sheriff's volunteer, volunteers with his local church and as a regional Scouting volunteer and board member for Habitat for Humanity and Western Sierra Medical Clinic.
Married to his wife Karen Bachanas since June 1978 with two children and two grandchildren, Mr. McDonald holds a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration from Santa Clara University. He is cited in close to 30 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Finance and Business.
