Dr. Moon is a professor in the Department of Molecular Biology in the College of Natural Sciences at Pusan National University. Teaching in this capacity since 2012, he formerly served as dean of the Department of Molecular Biology from 2005 to 2007 and from 2017 to 2018. Teaching on campus since 2003, he was also a committee member for the university's faculty council for four years. Prior to joining the faculty, Dr. Moon was a visiting scholar at the University of California at Berkeley.
Writing extensively in his field over the past 25 years in various scholarly journals and other publications, Dr. Moon recently authored "Arabidopsis AtNAP Functions as a Negative Regulator via Repression of AREB1 in Salt Stress Response" in 2017. He has contributed more than 50 articles in scholarly journals thus far. Notably, Dr. Moon has also been the recipient of seven Poster Awards from the Korean Society of Life Science, the Botanical Society of Korea and the Korean Society of Photoscience.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Moon pursued an education at Seoul National University, earning a Bachelor of Science in botany, cum laude, in 1990. He has continued his academic efforts with a Master of Science in biology in 1992, also at Seoul National University. Dr. Moon concluded his studies at Seoul National University in 1997, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1997.
A longstanding member of the American Society of Plant Biologists, the Botanical Society of Korea, the Korean Society of Photoscience, among others, Dr. Moon holds one patent in stress-tolerant plants transformed by AP2 (Apetala2) domain genes. He has also been responsible for experiencing many findings regarding regulatory mechanisms in abiotic stress response and in the development of plants during his tenure. Married to Sun-Young Lee with two children, he loves to read in his free time.
