In the past, he has been a partner at Oswald and Floyd from 1979 to 1988 and Sheftman and Oswald from 1975 to 1978, both located in West Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Oswald also previously held his own private law practice in West Columbia from 1974 to 1975.
Mr. Oswald currently holds a number of positions on various boards like serving on the Lexington Medical Center Hospital Board and leads as Commander of American Legion Post 79. He previously served on the South Carolina Health Planning Committee and the Opportunities Industrialization Center of the Midlands. Prior to this, he also served as the South Carolina director for Gary Hart's presidential campaign in 1984 and a member of the Lexington County Board of Education from 1989 to 1994, as well as on numerous councils in the South Carolina Midlands area. From 1969 to 1974, he was enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Mr. Oswald earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of South Carolina in 1971, where he later received a Juris Doctor degree in 1974. After obtaining two degrees, he passed the South Carolina Bar exam and was admitted to practice in the Fourth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals in 1974. He was then admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court of South Carolina the following year. He is also a member of several bar and law-related associations including the American Bar Association, New York Trial Lawyers Association, Lexington and Richland County Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association, Trial Lawyers of America, and South Carolina Trial Lawyers. In addition, Mr. Oswald has been a member of the Association to Advance Ethical Hypnosis, the Woodmen of the World Lodge, and Optimist International.
Mr. Oswald is a proud Republican, and has received two honors related to his political affiliation. These honors include a Republican Member of the Year Award from the Republican National Committee and a Presidential Gold Medal from the National Republican Party in 2003. He was also awarded the Resolution of Appreciation from the Lexington City Council in 1982 and a Certificate of Appreciation from Lexington School District 5 in 1979. Mr. Oswald is listed in the 58th edition of Who's Who in America, the first edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders of America, and several editions of Who's Who in American Law.
