Rev. Orris Kelly has received a number of accolades from the U.S. Army for his service, including four chaplain awards on behalf of B'nai B'rith International.

Rev. Kelly has served as the vice president of pastoral services with the Hospital Corporation of America in Nashville, TN, from 1985-1986. He was also an associate general secretary in the Division of Chaplains with the Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church from 1979 to 1985. Prior to this position, he had several military-related roles spanning over three decades. He began his journey as a commissioned second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1945, and later became a staff member of the U.S. Army Chaplain School in Fort Hamilton, NY, from 1962 to 1966. Following this, he became the director of the U.S. Forces Religious Retreat Center in Berchtesgaden, Germany, from 1966 to 1969, and then traveled to Vietnam to serve as the Division Chaplain for the Fourth Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in the city of Pleiku and the An Khê District. He then sequentially moved up the ranks from director of the plans, programs, and policies directorate to executive officer, and then finally as a major general serving as Chief of Chaplains for the U.S. Army.

Rev. Kelly completed coursework at the University of Kansas in 1944 before earning a Bachelor of Arts from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS, in 1950. He then received a Bachelor of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL, in 1953, and was ordained to ministry by the Methodist Church that same year. He went on to obtain a Master of Science in counseling from Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, PA, in 1973, and also received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1976.

Aside from his professional roles, Rev. Kelly has been a member of various military-based associations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., the Military Chambers Association, and the Association of the United States Army, among others. He has also received a number of accolades from the U.S. Army for his service, including four chaplain awards on behalf of B'nai B'rith International and one Decorated Distinguished Service Medal. His other honors include a Legion of Merit, an Army Commendation Medal, a Bronze Star and an Air Medal, each with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He is listed in the 45th edition of Who's Who in America, the fourth edition of Who's Who in Religion, and the eighth edition of Who's Who in the World.
