Dr. Kenneth Chance has been dean and professor of endodontics with Case Western Reserve University since 2014.

With more than 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Chance has been dean and professor of endodontics with Case Western Reserve University since 2014. Prior to obtaining this role, he was a member of the Board of Trustees at CWRU for 9 years. He was also a professor at the University of Kentucky from 2000 to 2014, dean and professor at Meharry Medical College from 1997 to 2000, and acting chair of endodontics and federal relations advisor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey from 1994 to 1997, having been assistant dean of external affairs and urban resource development with the school since 1989. He is the first African American permanent dean of two American dental schools.
From 1993 to 1994, Dr. Chance was director of the health policy program at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, also serving as health policy advisor to New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg. From 1982 to 1990, he was a consultant for Harlem Hospital, and he was assistant attending at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center from 1986 to 1992 and at North Central Bronx Hospital from 1983 to 1991. Dr. Chance was an attending with Jamaica Hospital from 1981 to 1987.
Dr. Chance began his career as a student at Fordham University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1975. He then joined Case Western Reserve University, earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1979. He received a certificate in endodontics from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and in business administration by the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics.
Throughout his career, Dr. Chance has been recognized for his contributions, having been named a fellow of the Academy of Political Science. Case Western Reserve University gave him the Paul P. Sherwood Award for Excellence in Endodontics, the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award, the Appreciation and Recognition Award, and the Discovering the Future of Dental Medicine Major Donor Award. The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey gave him the Community Service Award, the Outstanding Academician Award, the Foundation Grant Award, and the Excellence in Education Award. The recipient of the Tennessee Outstanding Achievement Award, Dr. Chance also received an Exceptional Merit Award, an Excellence Award, and a Distinguished Practitioner Award from the National Academy of the Practice in Dentistry. He has received 80 awards and citations and has made more than 125 national and international presentations. He has four children, Ken Jr., Dana, Christopher and Jacquelyn. He is married to Keli Green Chance.
