With more than 35 years of professional experience, Mr. Fix has been retired since 1992, having been an art instructor with the Norwich Free Academy in Connecticut since 1960, also serving as department coordinator since 1989. Prior to obtaining these positions, he was an art instructor at D.B. Oliver High School from 1957 to 1960. In addition to his primary roles, he served as an instructor of sculpture and art history with Upward Bound at Connecticut College, director of the young people's art program at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, and a jewelry workshop coordinator at the Guilford Handcraft Center.
Mr. Fix began his career as a student at Allegheny College, completing coursework from 1952 to 1954. He continued his studies at the Rochester Institute of Technology, obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1957. He concluded his education at Connecticut College in 1968, earning a Master of Arts Teaching. Mr. Fix is a certified educator in the state of Connecticut.
A respected voice in his industry, Mr. Fix has been affiliated with a number of organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He is a member of the National Education Association, the Connecticut Association, the National Art Education Association, and the Connecticut Art Education Association. The former president of the Mystic Art Association, Mr. Fix has been recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.
Throughout his career, Mr. Fix has been honored for his contributions. He was the recipient of a Mrs. Roy A. Hunt Award, and the Slater Museum Katheryn Forrest Trust Crafts International gave him an Award for Excellence in Silver. The Mystic Art Association gave him an Award in Sculpture, the Katheryn Forrest Trust gave him a Purchase Prize, and he received the Louise Forest Gibson Silver Prize and the Mabel Kingsbury Fentress Award. Mr. Fix has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in American Art, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the East.
