Mr. Simmons served at Crucible Materials Corporation in Syracuse, NY, as general counsel and secretary from 1986 to 2002 and as a Board Member from 1992 to 2002. He retired as Board Member in 2002 and as Senior Executive of the company in 2003. Prior to these roles, he began his professional career as a system attorney at Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation in Syracuse from 1977 to 1980, and then as an assistant general counsel at Goulds Pumps, Inc., in Seneca Falls, NY, from 1980 to 1986. After his retirement, he served as a Fellow of the New York State Bar Foundation from 2005 to 2009.
Mr. Simmons earned a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, attending the University on an ROTC scholarship. Upon graduation in 1970 he was commissioned an Officer in the U.S. Army. He then received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Albany Law School in 1973 and a Master of Laws in Corporate Law from the School of Law of New York University in 1984. He went on to become a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in 1988, and completed the Executive Management Program of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 1995. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1993.
During his time at Crucible Materials Corporation, he strived to keep as many people employed as prudent. He has served as a Board Member of the New York Seniors Golf Association from 2010 to 2015, and he received a Vatican Appointment as a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre in 1996. He was also awarded an Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal from the U.S. Army for his service. He is listed in the 58th edition of Who's Who in America, as well as several editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the East.
