Dr. Wilson has loved the sciences since her formative years, knowing that she was going to enter college from the first grade. Coming from a small town, she was exposed to chemistry and physics from a young age and desired to delve into research and academia. Attending Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, she earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1971. Transferring to Carnegie Mellon University, she also earned a Doctor of Philosophy in nuclear chemistry in 1976, thus becoming a postdoctoral research fellow in nuclear chemistry at the university from 1976 to 1978.
Following her role at the university, Dr. Wilson served as a staff research scientist in nuclear physics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1978 to 1980, and subsequently became the vice president and partner of Robert Case & Associates for 15 years from 1980 to 1995. She was then the director of research and development at Abbott Laboratories from 1995 to 2000. Soon thereafter, she held the role of vice president of research and development at Baxter Healthcare from 2000 to 2004, vice president of research and development at Haemonetics Corporation from 2005 to 2007, and vice president of research and development, as well as corporate executive, at ZOLL Medical Corporation from 2007 until her retirement from the industry in 2015.
Serving as a volunteer in downtown Cambridge since 2017, Dr. Wilson is an advocate of women's rights and race relations. She briefly served as an adjunct professor of physics at Chicago State University in 1980. Throughout her career, she was driven by the knowledge that products entering the market would make a genuine difference in patients' lives. Likewise, she was inspired by her interest in academia and often brought her love of teaching into how she ran her departments, thus developing further the careers of her staff members. A native of Delmar, Delaware, Dr. Wilson is the proud mother of one child, Christopher. She enjoys reading in her spare time.
