Judith Dozier Hackman was named Volunteer of the Year by the United Way of Greater New Haven, and she was given an Outstanding Alumnus Award by Southern Connecticut State University.

With 55 years of professional experience, Dr. Hackman has been a provost of the Graduate Institute since 2016. Prior to obtaining her current role, she held a number of positions with Yale College and the Yale Graduate School, including associate dean from 1998 to 2015, director of the teaching fellow program from 1999 to 2015, and associate dean from 1987 to 1995. She also served in a number of capacities with Yale University, including director of corporate and foundation relations from 1996 to 1998, director of institutional research from 1982 to 1987, associate director of institutional research from 1979 to 1982, director of special projects from 1974 to 1979, director of criteria study from 1971 to 1973, and researcher from 1966 to 1971. Earlier in her career, Dr. Hackman was a teacher with Oakwood High School from 1963 to 1966.

Dr. Hackman began her career as a student at MacMurray College, completing coursework from 1959 to 1962. She then joined the University of Illinois, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1963. In 1970, she obtained a Master of Science from Southern Connecticut State University, and she completed postgraduate work with Yale University from 1979 to 1980. Dr. Hackman earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Michigan in 1983.

A leading voice in her community, Dr. Hackman has been active with a number of professional organizations. She is or has been a member of the Association for Institutional Research, the North East Association for Institutional Research, the Association for the Study of Higher Education, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and the Society of College and University Planning. A contributor of articles to professional journals, Dr. Hackman has lectured at numerous universities and has been a consultant for Education Research Associates.

Throughout her career, Dr. Hackman has been recognized for her achievements. She was named Volunteer of the Year by the United Way of Greater New Haven, and she was given an Outstanding Alumnus Award by Southern Connecticut State University. The University of Michigan gave her a Best Dissertation Award, and she received the Yale and New Haven Elm-Ivy Award and the Outstanding Alumnus Award from Pawnee High School in Pawnee, IL. Dr. Hackman has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
