EVANSTON, IL, December 20, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Sylvie Romanowski, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Romanowski celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A professor emerita of French, Dr. Romanowski taught at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, for 45 years beginning in 1971. A teacher her entire career, Dr. Romanowski was originally taken on board by the university as an assistant professor before becoming an associate and full professor. During her tenure, she taught French literature of the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly novels and theater, from a perspective that combines studying literary form and style and situates these works in their historical, social and philosophical contexts. She also taught courses on writing by women in the 18th and 20th centuries from a similar perspective and served as the director of the women's studies program between 1986 and 1987. Dr. Romanowski formerly taught at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee between 1969 and 1971 and York University in Toronto, Canada, between 1968 and 1969.

Dr. Romanowski is the author of "L'illusion chez Descartes: la structure du discours cartésien" in 1974 and "Through Strangers' Eyes: Fictional Foreigners in Old Regime France" in 2005, which includes chapters on Montaigne, Montesquieu, Graffigny, Voltaire and Claire de Duras. She has contributed multiple articles to various scholarly journals in her area of expertise. Furthermore, Dr. Romanowski was the translator for Alexander von Humboldt's "Essai sur la géographie des plantes (1807)" and wrote an essay accompanying that work in 2009.

A longtime member of several professional organizations, including the Modern Language Association, the North American Association for Seventeenth Century French Literature and the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies, Dr. Romanowski also notably served as chairman of the Women's Studies Certificate Program.

Honored to have been able to teach so many young minds over the years, Dr. Romanowski also had the opportunity to direct multiple doctoral dissertations for students. She followed in the footsteps of both her parents—her mother was a Latin and French teacher and her father was a teacher and scientist. Dr. Romanowski earned a Bachelor of Arts in French and German from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, in 1962. She then earned a Master of Arts in French literature from Harvard University in 1963 and a Doctorate of Philosophy in French literature from Yale University in 1969.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Sylvie Romanowski, Ph.D., has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
