Dr. Luo is a scientist and longtime professor who has published over 650 scientific papers in the field of colour science, imaging science and illumination engineering. He has been responsible for the development of advanced expertise products such as colour and imaging systems for supply chain colour management and spectra tunable LED lighting systems for light and lighting research. He also holds over 15 patents. Currently, he is a Global Expertise professor in the college of optical science and engineering, Zhejiang University, China and a visiting professor at school of design at the University of Leeds in England and at the Colour, Imaging, Illumination Centre (CIIC), National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Dr. Luo is also a Board of Director of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) since 2007. The commission is the international authority on light, illumination, colour. He is also the Vice-President of the organization in this term (2015-2019).
Prior to joining the Zhejiang University, he was at the department of colour science, School of Design at the University of Leeds (2004-2011), Colour and Imaging Institute (CII) at the University of Derby in England for 10 years between 1993 and 2003. He formerly served as a senior colour physicist for Crosfield Electronics (later FFEI), a British electronics imaging company in Hemel Hempstead, England, from 1986 to 1993.
Dr. Luo's research and work in the field have resulted in the contribution of scientific papers in various peer-reviewed publications. An elected fellow of the Society of Imaging Science and Technology, and the Society of Dyers and Colourists, and recipient of various medals and awards, including the recent D. B. Judd award for the lifetime achievement in colour science in 2017.
Dr. Luo completed a Bachelor of Science from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in Taipei in 1981 and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Bradford in England in 1986. Married to Huimin Lee Luo since 1986 with two children, Alan and Tina. Dr. Luo has been included in the 26th through the 29th editions of Who's Who in the World.
