Usha Raut, Ph.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Usha Raut is an associate professor of physics at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE).

Dr. Raut is an associate professor of physics at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). A private, non-profit university offering bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering, business and nursing, she has been teaching at MSOE since 2014. She had also been teaching at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha, a public university located in Waukesha, since 2010, and formerly served three years as a principal investigator from 2007 to 2010 while at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, in Menomonie, WI. Dr. Raut's career in academia formerly included teaching at the University of Wisconsin in Platteville and Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant.

In the field, Dr. Raut has been active as a collaborator for the Gravity Research Institute in South Bend, IN, since 2004. A longstanding member of the American Physical Society since 1990 and Sigma Pi Sigma since 1996, she is also a longtime member of the Scientist's Pool, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.

Dr. Raut has hosted several presentations over the years in her area of expertise across the United States, in Sweden and Belgium. More recently, she hosted "Is There Any Need for Dark Matter" at the GR Conference in Mexico City in July 2010. Other presentations included ""Strong Gravity and Hadron Structure," "Two-Tensor Theory and Cosmological Constant" and "Why is the Cosmological Constant So Small?" During her career, her research has resulted in authoring and co-authoring multiple scientific papers in various professional journals, including the International Journal of Theoretical Physics, Classical and Quantum Gravity, and the Journal of the Indian Institute of Science. She has also served on the editorial board of the BAOJ Physics division since 2016 and was a reviewer for the Entropy journal in Basel, Switzerland, in 2008.

Nominated for the Johnson Control Part-Time Faculty Award in the Spring 2017, Dr. Raut was also the recipient of a Sigma Pi Award and Medal for High Scholarship in Physics in April 1996. She received several grants during her tenure as well, including a faculty grant from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 2009 and a faculty research and endeavors grant from Liege, Belgium, and Stockholm, Sweden in 1989. Dr. Raut has been cited in the 64th through 69th editions of Who's Who of America and the 28th edition of Who's Who of American Women.

Inspired to become a physicist after reading Einstein's theory of relativity in high school, Dr. Raut went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in physics from St. Joseph's College, Bangalore University, in India, followed by a Master of Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.), Chennai, India, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Theoretical Physics from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India, respectively.

Married to Sanjay Sumant Raut for several years, Dr. Raut is the proud mother of three boys, Alex, Eric and Ryan. In her spare time, she loves to travel with her family. She also enjoys listening to music and reading.
