Robert Bogue Trimble, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Robert Bogue Trimble accepted two Recognition Awards from the New York State Commissioner on Health between 2003 and 2005.

An accomplished listee, Dr. Trimble celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Now retired as a research biologist and professor emeritus with the State University of New York, Dr. Trimble taught in the department of biomedical science at the school of public health from 1989 to 2007. During his tenure at SUNY, he served as an associate chairman of the department between 1999 and 2003. He also worked as a graduate studies executive committee member for the Albany Medical College between 1998 and 2003.

Dr. Trimble excelled in the field for the Wadsworth Center Office of Research as director and deputy director between 2002 and 2007. He also contributed a research scientist for the New York State Department of Health at the Wadsworth Center in Albany between 1970 and 2004. The Center notably provides a complex diagnostics and state-of-the-art laboratory services that merges clinical and environmental testing with fundamental, applied and translational research.

Focusing much of his time on the structural and biochemical studies of glycoprotein glycan biosynthesis and processing, Dr. Trimble was responsible for developing nuclear magnetic resonance protocols for determining the structure of complex carbohydrates. He also developed isolated and characterized marine micro-organisms that can release rare metals from low-grade ores. Dr. Trimble has contributed more than 80 articles to various peer reviewed journals and technical manual chapters as a result of his research.

Additionally, Dr. Trimble served on the editorial board for the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Glycobiology and Analytical Biochemistry. Tasked to serve on the board of the Journal of Biological Chemistry, however, was a true honor, as he was one of the very first in that appointment as an employee of the New York State Department of Health. Furthermore, Dr. Trimble was a member of the American Cancer Society Personnel Review Group in Atlanta from 1991 to 1996, the U.S. Public Health Service Review Reserve Panel in Bethesda from 1989 to 1993 and the U.S. Public Health Service Cell Biology and Physiological I Study Section in Bethesda, Md. from 1985 to 1989.

Maintaining involvement with several professional organizations, including the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Society for Microbiology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Sigma Xi, Dr. Trimble is also a member and former executive board member of the Society for Glycobiology. The recipient of several grants from such organizations as the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and the National Institute on Aging, he has also been honored with a several Instrumentation Awards from the National Center for Research Resources between 2002 and 2007. Likewise, he accepted two Recognition Awards from the New York State Commissioner on Health between 2003 and 2005. He received a Wadsworth Center Recognition Award in 2005 as well. Dr. Trimble has been showcased in the first edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, the sixth edition of Who's Who in American Education and the 24th edition of Who's Who in the East.

Initially studying architecture in college, Dr. Trimble later changed his major to biology with an interest in both chemistry and geology. He holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in biology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In his free time, he also enjoys model railroads and shotgun sports. In fact, he was an international skeet/trap director for the New York Empire State Games between 1993 and 2001 and again between 2003 and 2008. Dr. Trimble was recognized as the New York State International Skeet Champion in 1994. He is also a life member of the NY Rifle and Pistol Association and a Benefactor Member of the National Rifle Association.
