Bivens, EdD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Bivens celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Bivens is a retired preschool teacher who taught in the Florida, Indiana and Kentucky school systems for 37 years before retiring in 1997. First hired to teach in the Broward County Schools in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, in 1960, she later taught in the Jefferson County Schools and Fort Knox Schools in Kentucky and the Madison Consolidated Schools in Indiana before returning to Broward County in 1965, where she remained for the rest of her career. In addition to teaching in the classroom, Dr. Bivens was a consultant in her field and participated in the K-Adult council at Nova Schools in Ft. Lauderdale. The Nova Schools, she noted, was a great experience because they offered a research and development center where she had the opportunity to work with other teachers and try new teaching methods. Appreciating the importance of continued education as well, Dr. Bivens often traveled and visited schools in different parts of the world such as Europe and Australia, to get a better understanding of various teaching and learning styles. Dr. Bivens also represented Delta Kappa Gamma in Australia at the World Confederation of Organizations of the Teaching Profession conference, where attendees from many countries discussed education, through headsets with interpreters when needed.

A lifetime member of the National Education Association, Dr. Bivens was a longstanding member of the American Association of University Women, the Jefferson County Historical Society, Historical Madison, Inc., the Red Hat Society, The Order of The Eastern Star, The Order of Kings Daughters and Sons, Rotary International as well as others. She is currently serving as the Chairman of the Leadership and Development Committee for her Chapter of Alpha Epsilon. Dr. Bivens was formerly active on multiple committees with Delta Kappa Gamma, including as the Mu State of Florida president and chairman of the International Program of Work committee, and Chairman of the International Nominations Committee among other roles. She notably received a Sara Ferguson Achievement Award from the organization in 1990. Locally, Dr. Bivens is a member, chancel choir and bell choir member and was an evangelism committee member of the Women of Faith, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Madison. She is the author of "Boots, Butterflies and Dragons," published in 1982. Dr. Bivens and her family created a scholarship fund called the Virginia, Nelson and Constance Bivens Scholarship for Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana students.

Dr. Bivens has been included in approximately 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women since 1991.

She has held a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts from George Peabody College for Teachers, of Vanderbilt University since 1960 and 1966. Respectively she later earned a Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University in 1982, while living in South Florida.
