Dr. Narayanan has been a Deloitte Touche Jones Stubbs professor of management at Drexel University since 2001, who also devoted 10 years as the associate dean for research between 2005 and 2015. Teaching for 40 years, he previously held appointments at the University of Kansas as the director of the Center for Management Technology, associate dean for academic affairs, and professor. He also served Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, as an associate professor for two years. Boasting expertise in cognition and strategy, implementing strategies, managing innovation and organization design, Dr. Narayanan has taught a variety of courses throughout his career.
In addition to his academic tenure, Dr. Narayanan has been a longtime consultant in his field. He is also active as a member of the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society.
Dr. Narayanan is the author of the 2001 book "Managing Technology and Innovation for Competitive Advantage" and co-author of "Encyclopedia on Technology and Innovation Management" with Gina O'Connor. He also contributed a chapter to the 2004 book "Scenarios for the Future," called "Invention and Navigation as Contrasting Metaphors for the Pathways to the Future," written by Liam Fahey, and contributed several scholarly articles to peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Management and the Strategic Management Journal.
Awarded in 2015 with a Fulbright-Nehru Senior Scholar grant to fund a research sabbatical in India, Dr. Narayanan previously received the Fulbright-FLAD Chair in Management of Technology in 1997 to research university internship programs at the University of Aveiro in Portugal. In 2004, while teaching at Drexel University, he obtained the Fulbright Alumni grant to work with his colleague in Portugal, delivering a knowledge management course in a global classroom format.
Dr. Narayanan earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in Chennai, India, in 1971 and a Master of Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad in 1973. Moving to the United States in 1974, he then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy in business at the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 1979. Born in Cohin, Kerala, India, Dr. Narayanan later married his wife Sunanda Rajagopal Narayanan in 1984. He has one child.
