Dr. Keeler is an ecologist and professor emerita of biological sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Specializing in various areas of biology, including ant-plant interactions, grass genetics and the study of prairie plants, she has done extensive synthetic work on the ecology of mutualism and the application of flow cytometry to plant population biology. She has also made significant contributions to the safe release of genetically engineered plants and prairie population biology. Dr. Keeler taught at the University of Nebraska for 31 years beginning in 1975. She also chaired the ecology section of biological sciences between 1985 and 1988.

During her career, Dr. Keeler served as the director at Cedar Point Biological Station in Ogallala, NE, was a biotechnology consultant for the National Audubon Society in New York City, and served on the advisory panel for biotechnology in environment for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She authored more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Since retiring from the University of Nebraska she has been a popular science writer and speaker.and published four books: "Curious Stories of Familiar Garden Plants" in 2015, "Curious Stories of Familiar Plants from Around the World" in 2016, "NoCo Notables: 15 Northern Colorado Plants Worth Knowing" in 2017, and "Look Twice: 15 Plants to Notice at Lake McConaughy" in 2018.

Dr. Keeler is an elected fellow of the Center for Great Plains Studies and a longtime member of the Botanical Society of America. Since retiring, she has become more involved in her local community. A member of the board of the Friends of Loveland Library since 2012, she recently served as president of the board between 2016 and 2017.

Listed in the first edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Dr. Keeler has also since been included in the 24th edition of Who's Who in the Midwest and the 58th edition of Who's Who in America. Falling in love with genetics in high school, Dr. Keeler always knew that she wanted to work in the sciences. Going on to college, she earned a Bachelor of Science in zoology and anthropology from the University of Michigan in 1969, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1975.

Born in Hackensack, NJ, Dr. Keeler later married her husband Richard Karl Anderson in 1975. Enjoying her retirement, she loves to travel.
