#50WomenCan Program Provides Attendees With Results Driven, Research- and Experience-Based Curriculum Top Figures from Prominent Media Outlets Are Attending

"Inequities within journalism must be rectified," notes Feldt. "Women represent more than half of the journalism workforce, but are chronically underrepresented in journalism leadership."

NEW YORK, NY, February 12, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Take The Lead's 50 Women Can Change the World in Journalism (#50WomenCan – (https://www.50womencan.com/50-women-can-change-the-world-in-journalism) today announced the launch of its 2019 program featuring many of the nation's top female journalists among its participants. Take The Lead (http://www.taketheleadwomen.com) was cofounded by Gloria Feldt, a nationally recognized leader in women's equality.

This is the organization's first program specifically for journalists and it comes at a time when the profession is roiled in chaos and change, with layoffs in both traditional and digital newsrooms. Funded by The Ford Foundation and the Democracy Fund, the signature 50 Women Can Change the World in Journalism program harnesses the collective power of women in journalism to build a more just and equal world, advance in their own careers, and work as a cohort to re-envision journalism.

"Inequities within journalism must be rectified," notes Feldt. "Women represent more than half of the journalism workforce, but are chronically underrepresented or misrepresented in journalism leadership. And with the increasing number of layoffs and closings of media outlets, the prospects for advancement and representation are becoming dimmer for women."

Take The Lead's 50 Women Can Change the World Journalism Cohort
The ongoing turbulent state of the industry is indicative in the overwhelming response and the high-profile names that signed on to attend. "Cohort members for this first #50WomenCan journalism program include many leading figures in communications," says Feldt. "From The New York Times to The Center for Investigative Journalism to NBC News, our attendees are coming from the industry's top media outlets." About the Program
Attendees will go through an intensive three-month program that combines virtual and immersive in-person sessions, as well as personalized, one-on-one coaching. The program's uniqueness is found in its research- and experienced-based curriculum developed by Feldt and centered on changing the power paradigm and learning the 9 Leadership Power Tools. "The training will teach participants how to lead themselves, their careers and organizations in a holistic manner," says Feldt. "Each attendee will graduate from the program with practical, enhanced knowledge, and a better understanding of how to use their own power that will enable them to rise in their own careers and within their professions." In addition to Feldt, Patricia Jerido will be lead trainer and Fara Warner, industry expert trainer, both Certified Take The Lead Leadership Ambassadors, will deliver the program.

Outcomes will be measured in three- and six- month intervals. "We continue to support women after the program's conclusion to ensure that they receive the greatest returns from their investment," Feldt says. "We are not simply a provider; we are a committed partner in their long-term success."

The program has made a difference in attendees' professional lives. Says Dena Trakes Patton, a program graduate in the nonprofit sector, "I got my power back, I got my voice back, and an unapologetic fierceness." She has subsequently built her organization into a leading force for girls' leadership development.

Take The Lead's 50 Women Can Change The World's track record was a major factor in The Ford Foundation's support. "We are proud to support Take The Lead's Women Can Change the World Journalism program," says Farai Chideya, Program Officer, Creativity and Free Expression. "Gender equity in journalism, as it is in any profession, is needed to ensure that all voices and viewpoints are heard, reflected and respected. 50 Women Can Change the World ensures this will happen."
