Dr. James Bryan Oerding, PhD Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    CAPAY, CA, February 28, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Dr. James Bryan Oerding, PhD with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Oerding celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. During his many years of professional experience, Dr. Oerding became a renowned member of the Who's Who family, and was featured in multiple issues of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in American Education, and as a charter listee in Who's Who in Quality. In 2018, he was presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who in the Category of Military Educator.

After graduating fourth in his high school class and participating in the shot put event at the Oregon State Track Finals, Dr. Oerding enlisted in the US Army and served in the Panama Canal Zone for over two years. While in the Canal Zone, he won a competitive appointment (from Army Corporal) to West Point in 1956. Upon graduation in 1960, he was commissioned as an Infantry Officer, and later was appointed as a Special Forces Officer, served three combat tours in Vietnam and one in the Dominican Republic. During his military service, he won a Silver Star, four Bronze Stars, two Presidential Unit Citations, a Valorous Unit Award, and more than 55 other US and Foreign Individual and Unit Awards and Decorations, Special Skill and Combat Badges. He retired from the military as a Special Forces Major in 1974, after serving for 21+ years.

Shortly thereafter, he received an MA and a Certificate in Latin American Studies from University of Florida, and then gained a position as an Intelligence Research Specialist in the 4th Psychological Operations Group at Ft. Bragg, NC. In 1978, he left to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of California, Davis, (UCD), where he also received a Regent's (U of Cal) Fellowship, a Chancellor's Fellowship, was Co-President of the UCD Graduate Students Assn., and served on the Univ. of Cal. State-wide Student Body Presidents' Council. He received his PhD in 1980.

After gaining his Doctorate, he was employed as an International Plans and Training Specialist in Western Command HQs, in Honolulu, Hawaii from 1980 to 1985. Following this, he served from 1985 to 1989 as an International Security Assistance Program Analyst, and later in the prestigious position of Director, U.S. Army Senior Fellowship Program, all in the Pentagon. During these and prior Civil Service assignments, Dr. Oerding received three Civil Service Medals for Excellence, a Sustained Superior Performance Award, six Exception Performance Awards, and more than ten other civilian medals and awards, including the Sons of the American Revolution War Service Medal for Vietnam and six Knight's Templar Service Medals.

In 1989, Dr. Oerding was selected to be the President of the U.S. Army Management Engineering College (AMEC) at Rock Island Arsenal, IL, and in 1992 he moved to serve as the East Coast Representative for the Defense Management Engineering College (DMEC) at Fort Ritchie, MD. He retired at Fort Ritchie in the grade of GM-15 (Army Full Colonel Equivalent) with more than 37½ years of distinguished Military and Civil Service with the U.S. Army, and with other Federal Agencies.

After retiring, Dr. Oerding toured as a Cruise Lecturer for more than five cruises of various lengths with Princess Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Costa Cruise Line. In all, he has visited all seven continents and 100 countries throughout the world.

Throughout his years of service and afterwards, Dr. Oerding continued to achieve academic excellence. As mentioned, he not only graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, but also from the U.S. Army Command and Staff College, the U.S. Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and the U.S. Air Force Air War College, and completed an A.A. Degree in Tourism Industry Management from Northern Virginia Community College. He also graduated from a large number of Classified Intelligence, Military, and Civil Service Courses, and completed a one-year Chinese Mandarin Course with the Defense Language Institute prior to his assignment and transfer to serve as a U.S. Army China Area Specialist in Taiwan, Republic of China.

Dr. Oerding is the author of fifteen varied publications and articles, is currently writing a children's book, in cooperation with his grandchildren, and is working on an adventure novel. He was previously the designer of the reverse side of the 7th Special Forces Challenge Coin. Dr. Oerding now resides in the rural town of Capay, CA, with his wife, the "Love of his Life," Sandra Pelletier. In total, they have six children and five grandchildren.
