Mr. Joyce has been a school librarian employed at Stony Mill Elementary School in Danville, VA, since 2012. In the field since 1992, he formerly worked for Brosville Elementary School in Danville between 2004 and 2012 and for Halifax County Schools in Virginia between 1992 and 2004. During his career, he also served as a media coordinator and school librarian for North Carolina School systems of Mooresville City Schools, Weldon City School and High Point City (now Guilford County) Schools before employment with Virginia school systems.
A lifetime member of the Virginia Association of School Librarians, Mr. Joyce is also a longstanding member of the National Education Association, the Virginia Education Association and the Pittsylvania Education Association. Locally, he has been actively involved as a member of the handbell choir with the West End Christian Church in Danville since 2009 through 2016.
Mr. Joyce has contributed several articles to various professional publications in his area of expertise. He recently authored "Go Places with Learning Centers and Stations: Fixed Schedules and Limited Space Should Not Stop You!" in VAASL Voice in 2019.
One of the highlights of Mr. Joyce's career was earning the opportunity to set up two new elementary school libraries. He was notably named 2014 Roanoke Region School Librarian of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Librarians and has been cited in several professional publications, including the Global Who's Who, Executive Who's Who, and the 65th edition of Who's Who in America.
Earning a Bachelor of Science in education from Western Carolina University in 1981 and a Master of Science in education from North Carolina A&T State University in 1985, Mr. Joyce later completed postgraduate studies at East Carolina University, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Montana, Radford University and Longwood University. He is a certified teacher in economics and personal finance by the Virginia Council on Economic Education, certified media supervisor and media specialist through the Department of Education of South Carolina, certified media supervisor and media coordinator through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, and postgraduate library media specialist through the Department of Education of Virginia.
