Gen. Malham M. Wakin is a professor emeritus who taught philosophy for the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs for 33 years.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, March 25, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Brig. Gen. Malham M. Wakin, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Gen. Wakin celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Gen. Wakin is a professor emeritus who taught philosophy for the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs for 33 years. Hired in 1964, he not only taught but also twice served as assistant and associate dean and headed the department of philosophy and fine arts for a total of 30 years beginning in 1967. First commissioned to the United States Air Force as a second lieutenant in 1953, he advanced to colonel in 1967. Gen. Wakin later retired from the Air Force as a brigadier general in 1995 and soon after retired from teaching in 1997.

Proud to have served in his teaching role for such a long time, Gen. Wakin feels incredibly grateful that he wasn't shuffled around to a number of posts, as military personnel often are. While heading the department on campus, he had the opportunity to successfully build the curriculum, which was a great privilege. For many years during his tenure, Gen. Wakin also served as the national chairman of the Joint Services Conference of Professional Ethics in Colorado Springs, a member of the ethics oversight committee for the United States Olympic Committee, also in Colorado Springs, and a member of the ethics visiting committee for the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

In an effort to remain up to date with developments in his field, Gen. Wakin maintains affiliation with the American Catholic Philosophical Association and The Phi Beta Kappa Society. Locally, he has been involved as a member of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College acquisitions committee since 1986 and as a member of the medical-legal ethics committee of Colorado Springs since 1995.

The author of "The Viet Cong Political Infrastructure" in 1968 and "Integrity First: Reflections of a Military Philosopher" in 2000, Gen. Wakin also authored and co-authored various other publications. He acted as editor and author for two editions of "War, Morality and the Military Professional" as well. Additionally, Gen. Wakin is a regular contributor of articles to professional journals.

The recipient of a Mudd Memorial Fellowship from the University Southern California in Los Angeles from 1958 to 1959, Gen. Wakin was later named Scholar of the University by St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, in 1970. Furthermore, he was honored with a Cardinal Cooke Award from the United States Military Ordinariate in Washington, D.C., in 1982 and received a Reverend William Corby Award from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana, in 1986. In light of all his accomplishments, Gen. Wakin has been cited in the 24th edition of Who's Who in the West.

Drafted into the military while pursuing his master's degree, Gen. Wakin was given notice beforehand and decided to put his education to good use by obtaining a commission with the United States Air Force. He then followed the path of many officers, flying as a navigator as a flight lieutenant for several years before joining the United States Air Force Academy. Initially teaching mathematics, he transitioned into philosophy with the encouragement of the dean and he went on to earn a doctoral degree. Gen. Wakin has held a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame since 1952, a Master of Arts from the University at Albany in New York since 1953, a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Southern California since 1959 and a human development and learning degree from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, since 1991.

Born in Oneonta, New York, Gen. Wakin grew up with two loving parents and an older brother. His father, a Lebanese man who worked as a laborer on the railroads in the wake of World War I, worked very hard to support his family. Happily married to his wife, Linda Mack Nelson, since 1976, Gen. Wakin is the proud father of eight children and grandfather to several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His daughter Margaret notably served in the United States Air Force for 10 years.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Gen. Wakin has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
