An accomplished listee, Dr. Fystrom celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Fystrom is a professor emerita who taught at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse his entire career. Hired in 1969 as an assistant professor just out of college, he retired three decades later in 1999. A physicist and researcher in the field, Dr. Fystrom's love of physics began to form while he was in the 11th grade. Reading a book called "One Two Three… Infinity: Facts and Speculations of Science" by George Gamow, Dr. Gamow began teaching at the University of Colorado just before Dr. Fystrom attended the school as a doctoral student.

Dr. Fystrom is a longstanding member of the American Association of Physics Teachers, the Acoustical Society of America and Rotary International. Locally involved, he served as the chairman of the Mayor's Ad Hoc Energy Commission in La Crosse for several years.

Included in the fourth edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Dr. Fystrom has notably held a Bachelor of Arts from St. Olaf College since 1959 and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Colorado since 1969. The proud father of three children, Dr. Fystrom is enjoying his retirement as much as possible. He especially loves to play golf and sing. He also enjoys reading and studying the stock market.
