Donald Rothblatt, Ph.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Rothblatt has nearly 55 years of professional excellence in education and urban planning. He began his career as a planner with the New York City Planning Commission in 1960 and held the same role with the New York Housing and Redevelopment Board from 1963 to 1966. He then became a research fellow at the Center for Environmental Design Studies and Assistant Professor of City and Regional Planning at Harvard University from 1965 to 1971. Over the years, he has also gained valuable experience at San Jose State University as the founding professor of urban and regional planning and department chair, and as the Lady Davis Visiting Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1978. In addition, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Institute Governmental Studies, University of California, Berkeley from 1982 to 2012, and at metropolitan planning agencies in such urban areas as London, Paris, New York, Sydney, Toronto, New Delhi, Beijing, Lodz, Poland, Guatemala City, Boston, New Orleans, Chicago and Los Angeles.

A fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners, where he was inducted in 2006, Dr. Rothblatt holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the City University of New York, a Master of Science in urban planning from Columbia University, a diploma in comprehensive planning from the International Institute of Social Studies at The Hague in The Netherlands, and a Doctor of Philosophy in city and regional planning from Harvard University. He has maintained affiliation with the American Association of University Professors, the California Education Committee on Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning, which he chaired, and the American Planning Association. He also served as president of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning, and as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Rothblatt produced a number of works, including "Human Needs and Public Housing," "Regional Planning: The Appalachian Experience," "Allocation of Resources for Regional Planning," "Planning the Metropolis," "National Policy for Urban and Regional Development," "Suburbia: An International Assessment," "Metropolitan Governance Revisited" and "Best Practices in Developing Regional Transportation Plans," among several others. He has also contributed myriad articles to professional journals within his areas of expertise and was the director of a television series on Station KTEH in 1976.

For his professional accomplishments, Dr. Rothblatt has been honored with many awards, including the Best of the West Award from the Western Educational Society for Telecommunications, an Innovative Teaching Award from California State University, and grants through the National Science Foundation, the Canadian Studies Enrichment Program, the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the California Department of Transportation. Notably, he was the recipient of a William F. Milton Research Fellowship through Harvard University, where he also served as a research fellow early in his career. Additionally, he has been featured in publications such as Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the West. Looking ahead, Dr. Rothblatt intends to continue enjoying his professional activities.
