Mendell D. Morgan Jr. led the department through a comprehensive $8.5 million renovation, doubling the library in size - a project which took several years to complete.

Mr. Morgan is well-regarded in his industry for dedicating 55 years of his professional career to libraries across the country. Prior to this role, he was Dean of Library Services at the J.E. & L.E. Mabee Library at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. In this role, he led the department through a comprehensive $8.5 million renovation, doubling the library in size - a project which took several years to complete and is one that Mr. Morgan considers to be the greatest achievement of his career along with implementing computerization and service expansion of the library. Other noteworthy roles that Mr. Morgan held in his career include serving as Library Director at Mountain View College in Dallas, Field Consultant and then Assistant Director of Field Services for the Texas State Library in Austin. He began his career as public services librarian for the Catonsville Branch of the Baltimore County Public Library.

In reflecting back on his professional career, Mr. Morgan says it was his love of helping others that inspired him to become involved in library science after initially being exposed to the field as a student assistant at the University of Texas. Earning a Bachelor of Arts from the university in 1963, he continued his education with a Master of Science in library science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 1964. To remain active in his field, Mr. Morgan has been a member of several local and professional organizations as well as the American and Texas Library Associations.
