Thomas Oellerich, Ph.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    ATHENS, OH, June 04, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Thomas Oellerich, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Oellerich celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Dr. Oellerich served in the field of social work for more than 45 years. For nearly 30 years he was a faculty member in the Department of Social Work, Ohio University. He was Department Chair for 16 of those years and retired as Associate Professor. He began his career gaining valuable expertise in the field as a caseworker with the Nassau County Department of Welfare, followed by caseworker experience with the Family Services and Division of Health and Hospitals in Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rockville Center. From there he worked for the Suffolk County Mental Health Board as clinical administrator of its Mental Retardation Clinic and subsequently the Suffolk County Family Court.

Dr. Oellerich consulted with the Athens County Children Services Family Preservation division. He served as Ohio On-Site Coordinator through the Region V Child Abuse and Neglect Resource Center, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He was a grants reviewer for the Ohio Department of Human Services' Child Protection Department. Over the years he was active in professional organizations including being president of the Ohio College Association of Social Work Educators and site-visitor for the Commission on Accreditation, Council of Social Work Education. He served the local community in a variety of capacities including membership on the Athens County Juvenile Court Citizens Review Board and the Athens City Community Relations Commission. Additionally, he was active in his parish, Christ the King R.C. Church including the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Dr. Oellerich is especially proud of developing a junior level course, Child Abuse and Neglect, and a senior level seminar, Ethical Issues in the Human Services, along with philosopher Dr. Bob Trevis.

An expert in his field, Dr. Oellerich was valedictorian at his graduation from Mother of the Savior Seminary Jr. College, followed by a B.A. in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America, a Master of Social Work from Adelphi University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, Case Western Reserve University. He was a licensed independent social worker in Ohio, certified in New York, Diplomate in the American Psychotherapy Association, and a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers. He was recognized as a qualified family and divorce mediator by the Ohio Supreme Court. He served as consultant to defense attorneys in child sexual abuse cases. His articles were published in social work and psychological and sociological peer reviewed journals.

Since retirement, Dr. Oellerich and his wife of 58 years, Florence, have travelled throughout the United States and Canada.
