Dr. Robert John Whitaker has been recognized as professor emeritus of Missouri State University, having been a professor since 1984.

With more than 55 years of professional experience, Dr. Whitaker has been recognized as professor emeritus of Missouri State University, having been a professor since 1984. Prior to obtaining this role, he held a number of positions with the university, including associate professor from 1979 to 1984 and assistant professor from 1974 to 1979. Earlier in his career, Dr. Whitaker was a program development specialist with the University of Oklahoma from 1963 to 1974, and an instructor with Regis College in Colorado from 1961 to 1963 and Creighton University in Nebraska from 1959 to 1960.

A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Whitaker has been an active leader in his community. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Association of Physics Teachers and the National Science Teachers Association. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his contributions, including with a Summer Faculty Research Fellowship. Notably, Dr. Whitaker has received an Excellence in Research Award and an Excellence in Teaching Award, and an Excellence in Service Award from the College of Natural and Applied Sciences at Missouri State University.

Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Whitaker began his studies at Creighton University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1958. Continuing his studies, he earned a Master of Science from Saint Louis University in 1961 and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma in 1972. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Whitaker has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in the Midwest.
