As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing upon a desire to aid other people in need of legal services from a young age, Mr. Manterfield is a retired lawyer and law educator who invested 40 years to the field. After receiving his Doctor of Jurisprudence, he served Barnes & Thornburg as an associate from 1972 to 1974 before delving into the banking industry with American Fletcher National Bank, now part of Chase Bank. Furthermore, Mr. Manterfield excelled in his role as an adjunct professor of law at the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University in Bloomington for 26 years and as partner at Krieg DeVault LLP for 16 years until his retirement in 2012.

Alongside his primary career responsibilities, Mr. Manterfield engaged in a number of civic outreach programs with such prominent organizations as the Easterseals Crossroads Rehabilitation Center, the American Heart Association, and the Festival Music Society. Sitting on the board of directors of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra for more than a decade, he has been a docent since 2015 with Indiana Landmarks and was involved with estate planning for second marriages. Impressively, Mr. Manterfield was the chair of the board of the Indiana affiliation of the American Heart Association for four fruitful years.

To share his wealth of knowledge with the legal community, Mr. Manterfield authored three books: "Basic Estate Planning" in 1980, "Fundamentals of Estate Planning" in 1982, and "Estate Planning for Married Couples" in 1982. He also wrote the fourth edition of "Critical Elements of Estate Planning with Forms" in 2009 and wrote several articles which have appeared in esteemed legal journals. In addition, Mr. Manterfield remains current with industry developments through affiliations with the Indianapolis Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association, American Bar Association and the Estate Planning Council of Indianapolis, where he previously served as treasurer, secretary, vice president and president.

Among the notable highlights of his career, Mr. Manterfield is most proud of becoming a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, the highest professional recognition that a lawyer can receive. He also enjoys speaking at engagements across the nation. The recipient of a Bachelor of Arts from Denison University in Ohio and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Michigan, he was admitted to practice law by the Indiana Bar in 1972, as well as before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and the United States Tax Court.
