Beginning her teaching career in 1964, Dr. Reynolds is a retired mental health/public health educator and dean of nursing at the Tennessee Technical University in Cookeville, TN. A faculty member of Tennessee Technical University from 1991 to 1998, she had maintained multiple other teaching and academic appointments in previous years. Furthermore, Dr. Reynolds worked as an independent human resources consultant in Cincinnati from 1975 to 1976 and as a human resources/organization development consultant from 1968 to 2002.
Outside of her tenure at Tennessee Tech, Dr. Reynolds worked as an assistant professor at Vanderbilt University, the University of Minnesota, the College of Mount St. Joseph, the University of Cincinnati and the New York Medical College's graduate school of nursing. Dr. Reynolds was a counselor for the New York Council on Alcoholism, a public health nursing supervisor for the Allegheny County Health Department in Pittsburgh and both an acting nurse clinical director and a public health nurse for the Syracuse Department of Health in New York.
Active with multiple different professional organizations since 1974, Dr. Reynolds was elected president of the Association for Creative Change within Religious and Other Systems. She further found success as the treasurer and the chairman of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, on the board of the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute and on several committees with several other organizations as well. Moreover, she has served in various roles for the Cookeville Rotary, the Putnam Alumni Association, the United Way of Putnam County and the Cookeville Community Clinic, among others. Since 1994, Dr. Reynolds has been a longtime member and president of the Tennessee Health Care Campaign, and active in client enrollment in the Affordable Care Act from 2011-2016.
The recipient of a Distinguished Service Award from Whitson Hester School of Nursing in 2017, Dr. Reynolds was presented with a Florence Nightingale Award from the Whitson Hester School of Nursing in 2016. Other accolades to her credit included a Leadership Award from the Tennessee Health Care Campaign in 2009, a Senator Tommy Burks Memorial Award from the Dismas House of the Upper Cumberlands in 2008 and a Volunteer of the Month Award from the City of Cookeville in 2001. Likewise, Dr. Reynolds has been featured in close to two dozen editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who of American Women.
Prior to embarking upon her professional path, Dr. Reynolds earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Syracuse University in 1952. She continued her studies at the University Minnesota with a Master of Public Health in 1958 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1990. Dr. Reynolds also completed coursework at the Center of Alcohol Studies at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, coursework in the theological education program at the University of the South and a training program in organizational development and conflict management consultation with the Diocese of Southern Ohio. Notable in her life work is her expertise in the Myers-Brigg Type Indicator, which formed the basis of her doctoral dissertation and continued to be a major tool in her teaching and consulting work.
