Donald E. Husby Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Engineering Management

Mr. Husby retired in 2008 after accumulating decades of experience through his work with Westinghouse Electric Company, Cooper Industries, and Husby & Husby Inc.

An esteemed engineer and business executive, Mr. Husby retired from his role as the chief executive officer of Husby & Husby Inc. in 2008 after 18 years of service. Previously, he found success as a utility sales manager for Cooper Lighting from 1985 to 1989, an engineering manager of new products development for Cooper Industries between 1982 and 1984, an engineering fellow and a manager for Westinghouse Electric Corporation from 1978 until 1982, and the president of Elliptipar Inc. from 1976 to 1978. Prior to these appointments, Mr. Husby advanced from an engineering manager to the vice president of the lighting division at Harvey Hubbell Inc. between 1972 and 1976.

Mr. Husby embarked on his professional journey with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, affiliating in various roles as a student engineer, a junior assistant, a senior engineer, and the manager of new products between 1952 and 1972. Before entering the engineering field, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Second World War, whereupon he was honorably discharged in 1947. Though his career has been suffused with highlights, Mr. Husby is especially proud to have established several subsidiary organizations in his time with Westinghouse. Utilizing his vast knowledge of the industry, Mr. Husby has given educational seminars in lighting, served as a technology expert for the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program through the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and has worked as an industrial advisory counsel for Underwriters Laboratories.

Prior to joining Westinghouse Electric Corporation in 1952, Mr. Husby earned a Bachelor of Science from South Dakota State University. In order to remain aware of developments in the field, he maintains his professional alignment with pertinent organizations including the Illuminating Engineers Society, the International Municipal Signal Association, the Society of Plastics Engineers, the National Electric Manufacturers Association, the American Society of Engineering Physicists, and the Mississippi Engineering Society. Throughout his career, Mr. Husby has been issued more than 25 optical and electrical patents and earned numerous awards, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Illuminating Engineers Society in 1989. He likewise features in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the Midwest.
