An accomplished listee, Dr. Asmus celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Having accrued over 60 years in the field, Dr. Asmus is currently a lecturer at the University of California Davis and a research physicist and the co-founder of the art and science center at the University of California San Diego. Previously, he served as the vice president and a board member for Science Applications International, Incorporated from 1971 to 1973. He found success as a part of the research staff at the Institute for Defense Analyses from 1969 to 1971.
Prior to these appointments, Dr. Asmus held the post of the head of the optical systems department at Aero Geo Astro Corporation from 1960 to 1964. His career began in 1954, working as a physical science aid for the United States Naval Ordnance Laboratory. Additionally, he excelled as a keynote speaker for the United States National Park Service Convention and the Laser World Trade Fair.

Dr. Asmus pursued his education at the United States Naval Ordnance Laboratory, where he received a degree in physical sciences aid in 1960. He continued his academic efforts at the California Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1958 and a Master of Science in electrical engineering in 1959. He concluded his studies at the California Institute of Technology, graduating with Doctor of Philosophy in electrical engineering and physics in 1965.

A contributor of scientific papers to over 100 professional journals, Dr. Asmus contributes to the editorial board for the Journal of Cultural Heritage. Utilizing complex scientific devices and methods in art application, he has been permitted to work on many famous cultural objects. In 1989, he was recognized as the winner in the IBM Supercomputing Competition for Image Enhancement for his work on the Mona Lisa. In 1990, he accepted a Rolex Enterprise Award for his restoration of the terra cotta warriors in Xian, known as the eighth wonder of the world.
Outside of his immediate professional responsibilities, Dr. Asmus was a valued member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He has maintained his involvement as an editorial board member for the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers since 2002. He further contributes to the Bay Area Art Conservation Guild, the International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, and the Venice Society, among other organizations.
