Supported by decades of professional experience, Dr. Nyquist has excelled as the faculty senator for the State University of New York since 2012. Prior to this prestigious appointment, she contributed as an assistant librarian to the librarian for the State University of New York, New Paltz, from 1968 to 2018, having previously served as the ombudsman for renowned institution between 1983 and 1985. At the start of her career, Dr. Nyquist worked as an assistant librarian for the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, the Evanston Public Library in Illinois, and the Skokie Public Library in Illinois, from 1959 to 1966. Subsequently, she accepted the same role as well as the title of research assistant at Rhodes University in the Republic of South Africa, during 1967.

Alongside her primary endeavors, Dr. Nyquist has dedicated her time as the co-project director for the Human Rights Documentation Project with the Ford Foundation, and as a consultant for the New York State Education Department in Albany, New York. She was also the chairman of the International Librarians' Committee for the States University of New York. Utilizing her expertise, Dr. Nyquist authored the book "Resource Sharing Today: A Practical Guide to Interlibrary Loan, Consortial Circulation, and Global Cooperation," published in 2014 and has contributed several articles to professional journals.

Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Nyquist earned a Bachelor of Arts with cum laude honors from Macalester College in 1956. She later graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Master in Library Science in 1971. Furthermore, Dr. Nyquist was presented an honorary Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Albany in 2004.

For Ms. Nyquist, the highlight of her career was having the opportunity to work in different types of libraries. She is also proud of receiving her honorary Doctor of Philosophy. In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Nyquist has been the recipient the Chancellor's Award in 1986, as well as grants from the State University of New York Research Foundation and the Ford Foundation. Likewise, she has been selected for inclusion in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who in American Education, among others.
