With nearly 25 years of professional experience, Dr. James Tat Thorup was an agronomist with the Chevron Chemical Co. from 1967 to 1992.

With nearly 25 years of professional experience, Dr. Thorup was an agronomist with the Chevron Chemical Co. from 1967 to 1992. In addition to his primary role, he served on the board of directors of the American Registry of Certified Professionals in Agronomy, Crops and Soils from 1988 to 1989 and the Conservation Tillage Information Center from 1986 to 1989. A regular contributor of articles to professional journals, Dr. Thorup is the author of chapters in the Western Fertilizer Handbook and the Ortho Agronomy Handbook.

Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Thorup pursued an education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1955. Continuing his studies with a Master of Science from North Carolina State University in 1957, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of California, Davis, in 1966. In order to keep abreast of developments in his field, Dr. Thorup maintains affiliation with the American Society of Agronomy, the Soil Science Society of America and the American Registry of Professionals in Agronomy, Crops and Soils.

A respected voice in his areas of expertise, Dr. Thorup has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades over the years. Notably, he has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the Midwest. Although he has accomplished much, Dr. Thorup considers the highlight of his career to have been working alongside his twin brother, Richard, at the Chevron Chemical Co.

He has been married to Clara Beth Thorup for 62 years.
