With more than 35 years of experience as a commercial leader, Dr. Curran Mechem has become known as an expert in her field and currently serves as Vice President of Marketing and Planning at OncoCyte Corporation, where she previously also held the role of Corporate Officer. Prior to this position, she held commercial positions at a number of life science companies including Corra Life Sciences as VP of Business Development, Abbott Laboratories as Director of Business Analytics, and Genentech as Senior Market Planner. Dr. Mechem started her career in high tech and worked for a number of data communications firms including Pacific Bell (AT&T) where she was in product management and a Director of Market Strategy. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Loyola University of Chicago in 1977, a Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of Chicago in 1979, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology from the University of Chicago in 1982. In addition, she has completed a certificate program in Strategy and Organization from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.
Outside of her corporate responsibilities, Dr. Mechem stays abreast of the changes and advancements in her field through membership in a number of relevant organizations. She is a member of Women in Bio, Women Corporate Directors, the Stanford Business School Alumni Association, Alpha Sigma Nu, and has been active in the past with the University of Chicago Alumni Association, the National Association for Female Executives, the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association and the American Marketing Association. She currently serves on the corporate advisory board for Farsight Genome Systems.
Throughout her career, Dr. Mechem has volunteered her time in her field and in her community. She has been on the Advisory Board for St. Mary's College Business School, on the board for the East Bay chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and has served as head of the Bentley Parent Association and fund raising chair for College Preparatory School. She was past chair for the San Francisco chapter of Women in Bio and currently serves on the national Executive Women in Bio committee. In addition, she has joined the board of trustees for Bishop O'Dowd High School.
In light of her many contributions to the field, Dr. Curran Mechem has also been featured in the first edition of Who's Who in Media and Communication, as well as the 16th and 17th editions of Who's Who of American Women and the third edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
