Previously, he excelled at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center from 1970 to 1974, a cardiothoracic resident at Montefiore Medical Center between 1974 and 1976, an assistant professor of surgery at Stony Brook University from 1976 until 1980, and a senior lecturer of surgery at the University of Ilorin from 1980 to 1984.
Prior to becoming an esteemed surgeon, Dr. Giwa pursued higher education with a Master of Science in education from Pace University, a General Certificate of Education from the Federal School of Science in 1963 and a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Ibadan in 1968. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Leveraging his plethora of knowledge, Dr. Giwa has contributed a number of articles to pertinent medical journals. He was mentored by Dr. Aufses, a surgeon who encouraged his passion for health and compassionate care.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Giwa remains informed of the changes and advancements in his industry through relevant organizations. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Giwa has been married to his wife, Amudat Adunni Musa, since 1981, and together they are the proud parents of three children, through whom they have three grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys playing tennis.
In light of his many achievements in the field, Dr. Giwa has received a number of awards and accolades throughout his career.
