Additionally, Dr. DeSalva qualified by written and oral examination as a Medical Legal Analyst with the American Academy of Neurological and Orthopedic Surgeons Board of Medical Legal Analysis and is licensed or certified in five professions.
Dr. DeSalva has embarked on a variety of successful business endeavors, which include being the founder and proprietor of C.J. DeSalva & Associates, formerly known as C.J. DeSalva & Associates Investment and Marketing Services of La Quinta. This business was originally established as a diversified Real Estate Brokerage and Marketing and Consulting Firm in Real Property and Tax matters.
Between 1979 and 1994, C.J. DeSalva & Associates consisted primarily of four separate and independent areas of business which included C.J. DeSalva Insurance Agency (Licensed in California to sell life, health and disability Insurance). Dr. DeSalva was also the founder and chief executive officer of The Kings Vault Gallery Incorporated. For the past quarter of a century Dr. DeSalva has served as a business consultant, entrepreneur and practicing trial attorney with an emphasis of practice in criminal defense.
As an accomplished Attorney in private practice since 1994, Dr. DeSalva has litigated from San Diego to the Bay Area; handling cases from drunk driving to first degree murder, and litigating Pro Hac Vice in a number of jurisdictions. From 2006 to 2009, he served as a temporary court judge on the Superior Court in five cities in Riverside County, California. As a highly knowledgeable member of the legal community, Dr. DeSalva served as an adjunct faculty member at the American College of Law, from 1989 through 1995. He has been licensed to practice law by the State Bar of California, the U.S. District Courts for the Central and Southern Districts of California, the United States Court of Federal Claims, the United States Tax Court, the United States Immigration Court and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Prior to his professional career, Dr. DeSalva pursued an education at Saint Vincent College earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and was a member of the varsity wrestling team 1968-1969. He also attended Rutgers University and The University of Arizona where he was the 1970 Intramural Collegiate Wrestling Champion Gold Medalist 130lb Division. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and class valedictorian with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1987 from the American College of Law.
Dr. DeSalva attended The American Academy of Neurological & Orthopedic Surgeons Post Graduate School of Medicine in Las Vegas, Nevada. He continued his academic studies at California Coast University (formerly California Western University Graduate School of Business and Management), where he earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1993, and completed PhD coursework in 1994. He concluded his education at California State Christian University in Los Angeles, California where he earned his PhD.
After leaving the University of Arizona in May of 1970, over the next decade, Dr. DeSalva would enlist as a Private in the United States Marine Corps, and would continue to pursue his educational interests. He received Honorable Discharges from the enlisted Corps as a Sergeant and Lieutenant of Marines. He was selected to the rank of Captain in the United States Marine Corps Ready Reserve Inactive.
Having been twice reinstated to active duty while in the reserves (Headquarters Command, 2nd Infantry Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division) and not wanting to be subject to recall, he declined his promotion to Captain and continued to pursue his academic studies. He subsequently requested of the Secretary of the Navy via the Commandant of the Marine Corps to accept the resignation of his commission, and was subsequently honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant of Marines.
His military service includes the following: Vietnam "Era"/Veteran; Veteran of active military service in Central America (Panama); Specialized Training: Land Navigation Expert; Jungle Warfare Expert; Desert Warfare Expert.
In 2004, he became one of only 11 people in the country to receive the Ronald Reagan Medal for contributions to the presidency of George W. Bush (first term) and the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Dr. DeSalva is most proud of his pro bono legal work with veterans, the indigent and mentally challenged. He remains dedicated to donating his resources to charitable causes including the care of abandoned feral animals.
In his international work, he has traveled to many countries and territories, including volunteering at the International Court located in the city of The Hague, Netherlands. He has consulted on a pro bono basis in the raising of millions of dollars used to help build hospitals, orphanages and rural schools in Southeast Asia (Vietnam).
