Billie Jean Lewis Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    CRESTVIEW, FL, October 04, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Billie Jean Lewis with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Lewis celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Celebrating more than 30 years in her field, Ms. Lewis is the retired library director of the Robert L.F. Sikes Public Library in Crestview. Hired to oversee operations in 2003, she formerly spent one year as the library manager at the Eglin Air Force Base Library, also in Florida, between 2002 and 2003. Ms. Lewis also held similar roles at several libraries across Norfolk, Virginia, Louisville, Kentucky and Detroit, Michigan beginning in 1989.

Before entering the field of library science, Ms. Lewis sought her education at Corning Community College, Corning, New York from which she earned an Associate of Applied Science in 1983. She subsequently matriculated at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in 1987. Ms. Lewis concluded her academic efforts with a Master of Library and Information Science at the University of Michigan (U-M) in 1988. She holds a certificate of industrial and labor relations through Cornell University and has been a certified professional librarian in Michigan since 1989, Virginia since 1999 and in Kentucky since 2000.

To remain aware of changes in her field, Ms. Lewis is a member of the American Library Association. She also maintains membership with the FAMU National Alumni Association, the U-M Alumni Association, Velma Conyers #7 Order of the Eastern Star and Mount Zion AME Church. Recognized as the first African American librarian in the City of Crestview, Ms. Lewis is also a celebrated Marquis listee who has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in America.
