Helen Faye Harrah has been the recipient of the Flag of Progress from the Kentucky Department of Education and honored as a Worth McClure Scholar by the American Association School of Administrators.

Accruing more than 30 years of professional experience to her credit, Dr. Harrah retired from Bullitt County Public Schools in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, as the assistant superintendent for personnel in 2008. Prior to this appointment, she served as an elementary school principal for Old Mill Elementary School in Mount Washington from 1988 to 1995, having previously contributed as a graduate assistant at the University of Kentucky in Lexington for two years. Between 1984 and 1986, Dr. Harrah served as an elementary school principal and later a coordinator of special programs for Menifee County Schools in Frenchburg.

At the onset of her career, Dr. Harrah taught special education classes at W.R. Castle Elementary School in Paintsville from 1975 to 1977. Soon thereafter, she briefly joined Harriman City School in Tennessee as a special education teacher for a year, further progressing to a consultant of special education for the Kentucky Department of Education, between 1979 and 1980. Dr. Harrah served as a special education teacher for Hearn Elementary School in Frankfort, Kentucky for four years.

Civically, Dr. Harrah has dedicated a portion of her time to local organizations such as Easter Seals West Kentucky, the Humane Society and the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest. A member of the National Association of Elementary School Principals, she also maintains affiliation with the Kentucky Association of School Administrators, the Kentucky Association School Administrators, the National Humane Society, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), and Phi Delta Kappa. In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Harrah has been the recipient of the Flag of Progress from the Kentucky Department of Education and honored as a Worth McClure Scholar by the American Association School of Administrators.

A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Dr. Harrah received a Bachelor of Arts in 1974. She earned a Master of Science from Illinois State University in 1975. Furthermore, Dr. Harrah concluded her academic efforts with a Doctorate of Education from University of Kentucky in 1990.
